WAB MS is looking for a qualified Library Technician in Beijing, for the school year 2021-22. The Library Technician assists with the management of the library automated system and information literacy support and collection development. A successful candidate is expected to have the ability to operate standard office equipment including computers and related software applications and the ability to speak, read and write English fluently. JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Description / Working Relationships

The Library Technician is reporting to the Teacher Librarian in respective libraries. The Library Technician assists with the management of the library automated system and information literacy support and collection development.

Main Responsibilities

The Library Technician is expected to:

  1  Teaching and Learning - Provide support for the teaching and learning programs of the WAB Libraries by:

  • Assisting students and staff to identify, locate and evaluate electronic and print resources
  • Assisting in the review and selection of resources [collection development] relevant to school programme(s)
  • Creating a positive, welcoming atmosphere and ensuring the physical environment is appropriately maintained  

  2  Resources and Operations - Provide clerical and technical support for the acquisition, circulation and maintenance of resources by:

  • Assisting in ordering and acquisition of resources
  • Managing online library catalogue

Entering and editing data into catalogue Destiny

Online cataloguing of resources (eg SCISWeb; Titlewave)

Original cataloguing according to DDC22, AACR2, SEARS and SCIS subject headings

  • Performing day-to-day and project-specific operations of Destiny Circulation/Reports/Resource Lists, etc
  • Consulting with Teacher-Librarian regarding resource management and access issues
  • In consultation with the Teacher-Librarian and Library Assistants ensure that the library is adequately supervised from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday during term time
  • Oversee and task Library Assistants with various library duties
  • Promoting resources to students and staff organize displays/promotion activities
  • Supervising volunteers under the direction of the Teacher-Librarian

3 Professional Knowledge - Maintain and pursue appropriate professional development by:

  • Attending relevant training and reading relevant professional materials
  • Participating in computer/user groups when available
  • Taking advantage of courses offered by the school
  • Attending Library staff meetings
  • Sharing learning and expertise with fellow staff members  

 4  Communications and Relationships - Provide quality, caring service to the WAB community by:

  • Maintaining day-to-day liaison with staff, students and parents
  • Fostering positive, supportive and genuine relationships within the library ‘team’ and WAB community
  • Supporting library goals and services by:

Being proactive

Multi-tasking and multi-skilling with other team members

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

The successful applicant is expected to have the following skills, abilities, knowledge and experience:

2  Qualification

  • At least a college degree in Administration Management.

3  Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Library management and systems is an advantage

4  Experience

  • Experience working in Library Management
  • Previous experience in an education environment preferable
  • Previous experience working with adolescents or young people preferable
